Dual Coat Gloss Timber Seal

NEW OR FRESHLY SANDED TIMBER FLOORS

Sand timber floor to a fine finish using accepted procedures. Machine sand the surface to remove old treatments and impurities in the wood. Use a coarse sanding paper and sand the floor to an even and smooth finish. Make a second cut with 100−120 grit sand paper and then Mne sand with 120−150 grit sand paper. This Mnishing will reduce the amount of grain raise. Vacuum thoroughly and tack the floor with a mineral turps dampened cloth before applying DUAL COAT. Do not forget to remove dust from skirting, windowsills, radiators and other exposed areas.

APPLICATION OF  DUAL COAT

All timber surfaces should be clean and properly prepared. All application tools must be clean and free of contamination. Apply first coat of DUAL COAT at the recommended rate using selected application method. Cut in edges using a paint brush or paint pad. • For roller application use a paint tray and load the roller evenly with sealer. Roll out excess on tray ramp. Roll slowly on the surface to be coated by overlapping the roller strokes. Finish off lightly with the grain of the timber. • For lambswool application use a paint tray and load the applicator evenly with sealer. Push out excess on tray ramp. Pull the applicator slowly over the surface to be coated by overlapping the strokes. Finish off lightly with the grain of the timber and the applicator free of sealer. • For T - bar application pour a line of sealer along the starting wall in the direction of the lay of the floor. Pull the applicator at an angle along the length of the floor allowing the sealer to flow off the following edge in a ‘snow-plough’ action. At the end effect a 180º turn. Gently press down on the tool to pad out excess sealer. Feather out all turn marks. Place the applicator on the floor and pull in the return direction ensuring the leading edge overlaps the previous coating and a wet edge is maintained. Smooth the seal in line with the timber grain and lay of the floor. Ensure an even coating is obtained without puddles and misses. Allow the first coat to dry for 3-6 hours. Oily timbers like Turpentine and Brush box resist the penetration of timber seals. To assist the adhesion of the seal it is recommended to wash the entire surface of the floor with Mineral Turpentine prior to application of each coat. The most suitable method to achieve this treatment is to thoroughly wet a bath towel with Mineral Turpentine, wrap the towel around a broom head and traverse the floor. Turn the towel frequently and rewet as needed to ensure a full wetting of the surface is achieved. Note: These oily type timbers can impede the initial coat drying times, if extended dry times are encountered ensure that adequate airflow is present or deploy fan forced air to create air movement.
